Cesare Ferro (Turin 1880 - 1934)

The dream

Oil on canvas

55 x 33 cm

First a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, Cesare Ferro exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he obtained a medal in 1904.

He was also an artist at the court of the King of Siam.

His notoriety is largely due to the quality of his landscapes and his portraits, where the characters seem taken from life and through which a great emotion shines.

Our painting with a symbolist character, shows a young woman lost in thought, incarnation of the Dream. This theme of Dreams and Dreams has been very frequently treated since the Renaissance as much in painting, as in literature or in poetry. It was then reinterpreted over the centuries and that until today.

The pastel tones of the decorative elements as well as the rendering of transparency given to the clothes and skin tones of the model, give the painting a vaporous, almost ghostly atmosphere.
